UH Sports Circle of Honor
Toku Tanaka had his collegiate baseball career interrupted by World War II, but later returned to UH and was elected team captain in 1948. Tanaka served as a volunteer head coach of the Rainbow baseball team for eight years before electing to begin studying for a master’s Degree. Tanaka is known as the person who fought for tuition waivers, which has turned into modern-day scholarships. He later served 32 years in the UH School of Tropical Agriculture.
