Don “Spud” Botelho was a running back, quarterback, punter and placekicker for the Rainbows from 1954-57. His career as a player, coach and athletics administrator spans a half century. His 95-yard touchdown pass to Colin Chock in 1957 set a school record. He was a member of the 1955 team that upset Nebraska, 6-0, in Lincoln. He also served as an assistant coach at UH and athletics director and head football coach at Damien Memorial High School in Honolulu. He has been athletics director and head football coach at Mid-Pacific Institute since 1974. He is a four-time ILH Coach of the Year, a two-time state Coach of the Year, and was honored by the National Federation of State High School Association for his outstanding contributions.
