UH Sports Circle of Honor
Jyun “Curly” Hirota was a two-sports athlete who captained both the baseball and football teams in the late 1940s. He later became the Rainbows baseball coach in 1963 & ’65. After serving in World War II as a member of UH’s Varsity Victory Volunteers, he returned to UH and was an all-league baseball player as a catcher and infielder and was a halfback on the football team. He later went on to an all-star pro career as a catcher with the Yomiuri Giants in the Japan Baseball League.
