John “Jack” Johnson was a multi-sport athlete for UH in the 1930s. He starred for the Rainbow football team from 1932-34 and played the halfback position on the 1934 team which finished a perfect 6-0 and defeated California in the New Year’s Day Classic. He also lettered in swimming, water polo, and soccer, the latter of which he was the team’s most valuable player. After UH, he served with the 100th Infantry Battalion and was killed in action during the Battle of Monte Cassino.
