The University of Hawai‘i Athletics Media Relations Office serves as a liaison between the UH Athletics Department and media outlets in addition to serving as the primary communications arm of the Athletics Department. The office provides all the relevant media outlets - both locally and nationally - with information in an accurate and timely manner. The Office also disseminates news and information through the Athletics Department's main home page (HawaiiAthletics.com) as well as official social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
Since its beginning in the late 1960s, the Media Relations Office has served as the central location for all UH Athletics information. Since then, as the Athletics Department has grown and media interest has increased, the role of the Media Relations Office has become much more significant. Information on past and present student-athletes, archived photos and videos, media guides and statistics are all kept on file in the Media Relations Office. UH's website provides information on teams, student-athletes and coaches, along with statistics, schedules and history. It is also used as a tool for promoting student-athletes for national awards.
The full-time staff updates numerous social media accounts with assistance from coaches and the Digital Media and Sports Marketing offices. "H-TV," UH-branded videos featuring the Athletics Department and its teams, student-athletes, and coaches are regularly uploaded to the Athletics Department's YouTube channel (YouTube.com/HawaiiAthletics). Video plays a key role in the Office's communication efforts and can be seen on all of the Athletics Department's web platforms.
The Office also relies heavily on student interns and work closely with the school's Communication and Journalism departments. Undergraduate students earn class credit working in the Media Relations Office throughout the year. Multimedia students produce videos which are featured on the Athletics Department's social media accounts as well as videoboards at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex, SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center, Les Murakami Stadium, and Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
