UH Sports Circle of Honor
Solomon “Sol” Kaulukukui was a four-year letterman in baseball and football. The starting quarterback for four years who captained both sports was coached by his brother, the legendary Tommy Kaulukukui. An outstanding catcher for UH and the semi-pro Red Sox, he played with local all-star teams, and traveled to Japan and a national amateur baseball tournament. A 1951 graduate of UH, he was a counselor and coach before becoming a full-time member of the Hawai‘i National Guard in 1956. He served in Vietnam and retired as a colonel in 1979. He was also noted for starting a Hawaiian Studies program in elementary schools in 1981.
