UH Sports Circle of Honor
Larry Tanimoto was the first to receive a golf scholarship to UH where he participated in two NCAA Division II national championships. On the Big Island, he was an administrator, teacher and coach with the DOE. He was also a golf pro, businessman and community leader, serving as Parks & Recreation Director and Mayor of Hawai‘i County. He was a member of the UH Board of Regents and state House of Representatives. He helped the Na Koa football booster club and arranged clinics on the Big Island for coach Dick Tomey and his staff, and organized UH spring football scrimmages for coach Bob Wagner.
