UH Sports Circle of Honor
Dr. Roy Kuboyama became the first University of Hawai‘i student to win an NCAA championship when he captured the 112-pound boxing title in 1952. Equally adept in the classroom, Kuboyama was awarded the Gartley Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement. Kuboyama graduated from the University of Wisconsin where he earned his medical degree in 1960. He served as president of the Hawaii Medical Association in 1979.
