UH Sports Circle of Honor
Dr. Allen Richardson, considered the Dean of Sports Medicine in Hawai‘i, served as volunteer team physician for Rainbow Wahine volleyball for 25 years. He is credited with being the first surgeon in Hawai‘i to perform arthroscopic knee surgery. He joined UH as an orthopedic consultant and team physician in 1979. He was president of Orthopedic Services of Hawaii and chairman-director of the Orthopedic Residency Training Program. An All-American swimmer at Yale, he later served as Sports Medicine Chair for the U.S. National Swimming Team and FINA’s chair of the drug-testing program.
