UH Sports Circle of Honor
Fred Furukawa paired with fellow inductee Willie Lee to give the Rainbow basketball team a formidable front-court tandem from 1952-54. Labeled as one of the best defensive players in local history, Furukawa also served as assistant coach for UH from 1957-63. After a stint as a professor in the UH College of Education, he moved on to Cal State Sacramento, where he served as head coach in 1969 before settling into his current position as a professor in the Health and Physical Education Department.
