Gary Allen starred at tailback for the Rainbow Warriors from 1978-81 and remains the most prolific rusher in the history of the program. The owner of four Hawai‘i season marks, Allen also holds UH career records for yardage (3,451), attempts (647), 100-yard games (15), and 1,000-yard rushing seasons (2). He was also a capable receiver out of the backfield, holding school marks for receptions (73) and receiving yards (895) by a running back. A four-time Associated Press All-America honorable mention and three-time all-Coast and all-WAC selection, Allen played in the Hula Bowl and Japan Bowl all-star games in 1982. He continued his playing career in the NFL as a draft selection of the Houston Oilers.
