Track & Field Off To Irvine For Final Tune-Up For WAC

The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team will participate in the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational, Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, its final collegiate competition before the Western Athletic Conference Championships. The meet will be held at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium.

On Saturday, field events begin at 2:00 p.m. PT with the first track event at 6:00 p.m. PT
Field and track events both begin at 12:00 p.m. PT on Sunday. The meet is named after UCI's track and field and cross country great, who was a three-time Olympian and six-time All-American.

UH found success the last time it competed in the Steve Scott Invite in 2009. The Rainbow Wahine broke one school record, had four regional qualifiers, and set 12 personal best performances which was arguably the team's best performance at a single meet under head coach Carmyn James' tenure.

The Rainbow Wahine are currently ranked No. 113 in the latest USTFCCCA Division I computer rankings with three athletes ranked in their respective events. Sophomore Samantha Balentine is the highest ranked athlete at No. 23 in the high jump with teammate Sarah Saddleton ranked No. 32. Junior Madara Apine is No. 31 in the triple jump.

Following the Steve Scott Invite, Hawai'i will host its final Sunset Series meet, Saturday, May 7 before hosting the WAC Championships, May 10-13 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
