Biography

2001 (Junior): Made 17 starts, the only pitcher on the staff who did not make a relief appearance…tossed a complete-game victory over San Jose State (Mar. 24)…had seven or more strikeouts in six outings, including a career-high nine in his only other win against Hawai'i Pacific (Mar. 31)…gave one earned run or less on seven occasions, going 2-0 with five no-decisions…went 1-7 with a 5.09 ERA in 12 starts in the WAC striking out 51 and walking 22 in 69 innings…earned WAC Pitcher-of-the-Week honors for week of Jan. 22-28 when he went five no-hit innings against Sacramento State (Jan. 26), facing one over the minimum (16) batters…overall, opponents batted .287 against him (RH=.281; LH=.296).

2000 (Sophomore): Led the staff with 23 relief appearances on the season and nine in the WAC…one of only two pitchers with sub-3.00 ERA (2.93)…had the best win-loss percentage among regulars (4-1) with a team-high four saves…opponents batted .267 against him.

1999 (Freshman): Made 11 outings out of the bullpen and his lone start came against Fresno State (Mar. 22) in the first game of the Easter Tournament…in that outing, set season-highs in strikeouts (5), walks (4), runs (4), and hits allowed (5) in 4.2 innings…combined for a shutout against UCLA (Jan. 23)…did not allow an earned run in 4.0 innings of work against Hawai‘i-Hilo (April 17) while striking out four…in appeared in five WAC games posting a 9.95 ERA in 6.1 innings…overall, opponents hit .247 against him (LH=.310; RH=.205).

Prep: A 1998 graduate of Pearl City High School in Pearl City, Oahu…a three-year letterman in baseball under coach Mel Seki…was named to the Oahu Interscholastic Association first team his junior season and second team his senior season.

Personal: Born in Honolulu…majoring in history…favorites include actor Chris Tucker, the musical group Natural Vibrations, and major league pitcher Billy Wagner…has one sister…parents are Diane and Thomas Yamashita.
