HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors (19-25, 8-10 Big West) went deep in a tie game in Sunday's finale with Long Beach State (28-18, (11-7 Big West), but a leadoff double in the final frame proved enough to deliver the Dirtbags the game three win, 4-3, and the series victory.

It was a tough early run for right-hander Brendan Hornung, making his first Sunday start at Hawai'i. A ball lifted into high winds by Jarren Duran accounted for a leadoff double, but he came around to score on the play as an error throw rolled into the LBSU dugout.

Consecutive LBSU singles in the second set up a second Dirtbags score on a Brooks Stotler RBI double. LBSU added a third after Garrett Hampson logged a one-out triple and crossed the plate on Daniel Jackson's RBI single up the middle.

On to the sixth, with the 'Bows facing a 3-0 deficit, UH unloaded on starter Tanner Brown, with Eric Ramirez leading off with a double and Marcus Doi adding an RBI triple. Ethan Lopez followed with an RBI single lined to center field, and Josh Rojas capped off the scoring with a game-tying RBI groundout.

Hornung went deep into Sunday's contest before yielding to Lawrence Chew in the ninth, but a pinch hitter found a hole in the 'Bows alignment. Domenic Colacchio doubled deep down the left field line, while his pinch runner, Zack Rivera moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Rivera came home as the go-ahead run for Long Beach State on Zach Domingues' sacrifice fly into center field.

The 'Bows left Johnny Weeks in scoring position as the final out was called, dropping the 4-3 finale and the series 2-1.

Chew (0-4) took the loss for the Rainbow Warriors, allowing two hits and a run. Hornung carried UH 8.0 innings with 13 hits and six strikeouts, but only three runs allowed.

Closing out 4.0 innings of relief with only two hits and no runs, Austin McGeorge (1-0) picked up the wind.

At the plate, Doi went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while both Ramirez and Weeks were 2-for-5.

The Rainbow Warriors return for a big week of action back at Les Murakami, taking on UC Riverside on Friday and Sunday next week, sandwiching the 2016 Commencement exercises on Saturday morning.
