2017 (Senior): Named second-team All-Big West…made 15 starts in his final season wtih the Rainbow Warriors...second on the team with a 3.25 ERA while going 6-6…led the team and ranked sixth in the Big West with 89 strikeouts versus only 18 walks in 108 innings pitched...ranked 49th nationally and third in the conference with a 4.94 strikeout-to-walk ratio…was fifth in the nation while leading the Big West in complete games with five…threw eight shutout innings with six strikeouts and only one walk vs. San Francisco on February 23…named the Big West Pitcher of the Week on March 13 after dominating against Sacred Heart (March 10), striking out a career-high 14 without any walks to earn the win in a complete game effort - the most fanned batters for UH since 2014…turned in another double-digit strikeout performance against Indiana (March 16), fanning 10 with only one walk in 7.2 innings…spun another gem in a complete game win versus San Jose State (March 23) with seven strikeouts and no walks while allowing two runs, one earned, on 11 hits…earned back-to-back complete game wins at Cal Poly (April 8) and at UC Riverside (April 13), striking out 11 while giving up just three runs over the two outings…earned the win after going seven strong innings, surrendering just two runs, one earned, on six hits with four strikeouts vs. UC Irvine on May 12...named to the Big West All-Academic Team.
2016 (Junior): Made 16 starts on the mound with a record of 4-7...had the second most innings pitched on the team and fifth most in the Big West with 101.1…finished with an ERA of 3.11…ranked 11th in the BWC and led the team with 74 strikeouts to 22 walks…tossed seven shutout innings with six strikeouts and just four hits and picked up the win versus West Virginia (March 3)…also went 8.1 against Chicago State (March 17) without allowing an earned run and striking out eight without walking a batter…picked up the win in the conference opener versus UC Irvine (April 1), going 7.2 without allowing an earned run, with six strikeouts and no walks…set a career-high for strikeouts with nine versus Santa Clara (3/24), pitching 7.1 innings with only one walk.
Prior to UH: Played three seasons at Chaffey Junior College in Rancho Cucamonga, California…as a sophomore, pitched 64.1 innings across 12 starts, earning a 5-2 record and 2.66 ERA while notching 47 strikeouts with only 15 walks…For his efforts he was earned second-team all-Foothill Conference honors…also received Academic Athlete honors in 2014 and 2015 at Chaffey…as a freshman in 2013, pitched 37 innings in 11 appearances, largely as a reliever, striking out 27 while earning a 2-2 record…a head injury in February 2014 on a comeback line drive just 20 innings into his second year ended his season and forced a redshirt season…played summer ball for the Inland Valley Pirates of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League (SCCBL) in 2015, striking out 27 in 25.1 innings…earned a spot on the Rawlings California Cup All-Tournament Team…
Prep: A 2012 graduate of Santiago High School in Corona, Calif., where he was a two-year letterman in baseball…as a junior, started 2-of-5 appearances, striking out 11 in 18 innings pitched, registering a 2.33 ERA and a 2-0 record with two complete games.
Personal: Born in Anaheim, Calif…graduated in Spring 2017 with his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology…has a younger brother…parents are Sandra and Frank Hornung of Corona, Calif.
