Softball Hosts Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (10-7, 0-0 Big West) continues its month-long homestand as it hosts the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament this week from March 4-6. Competing against the Rainbow Wahine will be Coastal Carolina (7-8, 0-0 Big South) and Stanford (7-7, 0-0 Pac-12).
 
Hawai'i went 4-1 last week in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational, notching three wins over Utah Valley while going 1-1 against Portland State. Senior rightfielder Keiki Carlos leads UH with a .298 batting average (14-for-47) with 10 runs scored and three doubles. She, along with Sarah Muzik are both 3-for-3 in stolen bases. Muzik, UH's freshman leftfielder,  is close behind, hitting .294 with a team-high 15 hits in 51 at-bats and she has scored a team-high 11 runs.
 
Junior centerfielder Ulu Matagiese has come on strong, hitting .417 in last week's tournament, going 5-for-12  with three doubles and two runs scored. Overall, Matagiese is hitting .297 (11-for-37). Freshman catcher Heather Cameron also fared well last week, starting all five games at catcher. She hit an even .400 for the week (4-for-10) with a double and two runs scored.
 
In the pitching circle, Kanani Aina Cabrales went 3-0 in the BOH Invitational, and raising her overall record to 6-2. She has a 2.41 ERA in 49.1 innings pitched with 16 walks to 27 strike outs while holding opponents to a .225 batting average. Brittany Hitchcock is 4-5 overall with a 2.74 ERA in 10 appearances. She has issued just two walks compared to 35 strike outs in 58.2 innings pitched.
