HONOLULU—Senior pitcher Kaia Parnaby fired a two-hit shutout and struck out a career-high 15 batters and tied the UH single-game record, while Keiki Carlos and Leisha Li'ili'i powered UH past Portland State, 7-0. The No. 21/24 University of Hawai`i softball team (14-5, 0-0 Big West) racked up four extra base hits in the first two innings to account for all of their runs.

Parnaby tied fellow Aussie southpaw Brooke Wilkins with the 15 K's in a game. Wilkins--the two-time All-American--set the record mark twice against UC Santa Barbara (3/1/94) and Long Beach State (3/22/94). She had a string of eight straight strike outs between the second and fourth inning and was very efficient, throwing just 96 pitches--74 of them for strikes. It was Parnaby's fifth shut out and 13th complete game of the season. It also marked her 24th shutout of her career. She issued one walk and faced just 24 batters in her 17th appearance of the season. She is now 12-2 this season with a 59-17 overall record.

The 'Bows got off to a hot start on offense, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first with three extra base hits in the frame. Kelly Majam led off with a walk and came all the way home on a triple hit over the rightfielder to the fence by Kayla Wartner. Carlos followed with her third home run of the year. She launched a high-fly ball that sailed over the right-centerfield fence.  Jessica Iwata and Leisha Li`ili`i kept things going with back-to-back walks then after two outs, Alyssa Villalpando came through with an RBI double to give UH 4-0 lead.

Hawai`i added three runs with two outs in the second on Leisha Li`ili`i's second homer of the tournament and 12th of her career. The blast drove in Carlos and Iwata to reached on a fielder's choice and a walk. Hawai`i led 7-0 after two complete innings.

The Vikings' Karyn Wright dropped her record 1-5 in a complete game effort. She gave up seven runs on nine hits with five walks and three strike outs.

Hawai`i continues play in the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament on Saturday. They face Porland State again at 4:00 pm and East Carolina at 6:00 pm.
