Five Rainbow Wahine Named CSC Academic All-District

HONOLULU — Five members of the 2026 University of Hawai'i softball team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team on Tuesday in recognition of their performances on the field and in the classroom. Milan Ah Yat, Taryn Irimata, Jamie McGaughey, Carys Murakami, and Hannah Pitts all represented the Rainbow Wahine on the Division I list.

The academic qualification for the Academic All-District teams is a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 90% of the season's games or started in 66% of the games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.

Milan Ah Yat  (Junior, Shortstop, Honolulu, O'ahu)
Athletic Highlights
• Earned All-Big West First Team honors
• Started all 50 games at shortstop 
• Recorded a .287 batting average with 41 hits, including nine doubles, a triple, and eight home runs
• Drove in 29 runs while finishing with 10 multiple-hit games and five multiple-RBI games
• On defense, helped anchor the middle infield with 80 putouts and 78 assists.
Academic & Community Excellence
• Major: Sociology
• Second straight season earning CSC Academic All-District honors
• Outside the classroom and off the field, she is dedicated to giving back, volunteering twice with the Hawaii Foodbank to help feed local communities, participating in beach cleanups at Kaimana Beach Park, and coaching local youth at multiple baseball and softball keiki camps.

Taryn Irimata  (Sophomore, Pitcher, 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu)
Athletic Highlights:
• Earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region Third Team honors
• Voted the 2026 Big West Pitcher of the Year while also earning All-Big West First Team honors
• Garnered Big West Pitcher of the Week four times (Feb. 9, March 23, April 13, April 22)
• Finished the year with a 13-9 overall record and a 10-2 record in conference
• Overall, finished the season with a league-best 2.38 ERA across 129.1 innings pitched
• Struck out 87 batters and threw 14 complete games with six complete game shutouts, five coming during the Big West season
• In conference games, recorded a miniscule 1.60 ERA in 78.2 innings while holding opponents to a .195 batting average
• Overcame a slow start as she began the season with a 2-6 record and then won 11 of her next 13 decisions
Academic & Community Excellence:
• Major: Psychology
• Has a deep commitment to community service, actively volunteering at local Kado Baseball camps
• Helped organize food drives at the Kamalu Hoolulu Elderly Housing complex
• Packaged meals for families in need at the ASUN Pack Provision Pantry and The Pantry: Feeding Hawaii Together.

Jamie McGaughey*  (Junior, Third/First Baseman, Petaluma, Calif.)
Athletic Highlights:
• Named to the NFCA All-West Region Second Team
• Selected to the All-Big West First Team
• Twice voted Big West Field Player of the Week (April 13, May 4)
• Led the Rainbow Wahine offense across the board while starting all 50 games at third or first base
• Posted a career-best .394 overall batting average, which skyrocketed to .463 in Big West play
• Led UH in hits (56), doubles (12), home runs (13), RBI (43), total bases (105), and slugging percentage (.739)
• Topped the roster with 18 multiple-hit games and 13 multiple-RBI games
Academic & Community Excellence:
• Major: Management
• Second straight season earning CSC Academic All-District honors
• Has served as a volunteer youth softball coach for the local Petaluma Steel organization

Carys Murakami  (Senior, Second/Third Base, Kane'ohe, O'ahu)
Athletic Highlights:
• Named to the 2026 Big West Championship all-tournament team
• Started all 50 games at second base or third base.
• Served as a spark plug for the offense with a .297 batting average, hitting primarily at the top of the order
• Led the team in multiple categories, with 148 at-bats, 34 runs scored, and five sacrifice bunts
• Finished second on the team with 44 hits and 13 multiple-hit games.
• On defense, racked up a team-high 75 assists
Academic & Community Excellence:
• Major: Psychology
• Second straight season earning CSC Academic All-District honors
• Academically was the highest ranking Rainbow Wahine softball player
• Served weekly with Lanakila Meals on Wheels delivering meals to local residents
• Volunteered at The Pantry and joined her team in environmental cleanups at Diamond Head and Queen's Beach.

Hannah Pitts  (Senior, Pitcher, Auburn, Ala.)
Athletic Highlights:
• Voted to the All-Big West Second Team
• Named Big West Pitcher of the Week twice (March 9, April 6)
• Posted an 11-4 record and 2.65 ERA overall. In conference play, recorded an 8-1 record with a 2.21 ERA
• Allowed the fewest walks among primary starters (22) and held opponents to a .274 batting average
Academic & Community Excellence:
• Graduate School: Disability and Diversity Studies
• Spearheaded numerous team volunteer efforts, spent a Community Work Day clearing land to help restore the native fishpond at Ulupo Nui
• Organized several team volunteer days distributing meals to hundreds of families at The Pantry
• Coordinated shelter cleanups for The Institute for Human Services
