LOUISVILLE, Ky. — University of Hawai'i third/first baseman
Jamie McGaughey and pitcher
Taryn Irimata have been named to the 2026 National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Division I All-West Region teams, as announced by the NFCA on Thursday. The honors mark a resurgence for the Rainbow Wahine program, with McGaughey securing a spot on the All-Region Second Team while Irimata garnered Third-Team honors.
A cornerstone of the Hawai'i infield, McGaughey is the first UH player named to the All-Region Second Team since former UH pitcher Brittany Hitchcock and third baseman Nicole Lopez earned the distinction in 2019. Irimata is the first UH player to receive a Third-Team nod since second baseman Maya Nakamura in 2023.
This season, McGaughey was voted to the All-Big West First Team and picked up two Big West Field Player of the Week awards. The junior from Petaluma, Calif., had a dominant season in which she led the team in multiple offensive categories. McGaughey was one of four UH players to start all 50 games. She posted a team-high .394 batting average and led the squad with 12 home runs, 13 doubles, and 43 RBI. Her power was on full display during a matchup against UC Riverside on May 1 when she blasted two home runs and collected 11 total bases in a single contest.
Last week, Irimata earned Big West Pitcher of the Year as well as all-conference first-team honors. UH's sophomore standout finished the year with a 13-9 overall record and a 10-2 record in conference. Overall, she finished the season with a league-best 2.38 ERA. Across 129.1 innings pitched, she struck out 87 batters and threw 14 complete games with six complete game shutouts--five coming during the Big West season. In conference games, Irimata recorded a miniscule 1.60 ERA in 78.2 innings while holding opponents to a .195 batting average. Irimata overcame.a slow start as she began the season with a 2-6 record and then won 11 of her next 13 decisions.
A total of 378 student-athletes representing 154 programs received 2026 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each region nominated student-athletes (eight maximum) and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2026 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
