HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team captured two gold medals and a bronze on the third day of the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Thursday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
After the first full-day of competition, UH is in third place with 37 points, behind leader Nevada (53) and Utah State (49). Six-time defending champions Louisiana Tech is in fourth place (34) followed by New Mexico State (28), Idaho (28), Boise State (23), and Fresno Stae (21).
For the sixth consecutive year, a Rainbow Wahine high jumper stood atop the podium, as
Sarah Saddleton captured gold with a clearance of 5-10.75 (1.80m). The junior from Auckland, New Zealand, won four WAC silver medals during the indoor and outdoor seasons in her career before finally breaking through.

TeRina Keenan repeated as discus champion after throwing 161-8 (49.27m), which marked the fifth time a UH athlete has won the event. Teammate
Careena Onosai took fifth with a mark of 152-1 (46.35m).

Emma MacCorquodale captured the bronze medal in the hammer throw. In each of her final two attempts, the Nanaimo, British Columbia native eclipsed her personal best and finished with a monster throw of 184-11 (56.36m). Teammate
Joanna Franke-Kuhn placed sixth with a new PR throw of 174-5 (53.17m).
Senior
Ashley Aitken was one of eight qualifiers for Friday's 800-meter finals after running a 2:11.50 in the prelims. Despite not qualifying for the 400-meter finals,
Ashlee Jimenez set a personal best 57.06 in prelims.
The meet concludes on Friday. Field events begin at 1:30 p.m. while track events start at 5:00 p.m.
