SAN JOSE, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i softball team swept today's doubleheader at San Jose State to capture the series 2-1. In the first game, the 'Bows were propelled to a 6-5 win by three home runs, then UH racked up 11 runs on 11 hits in the second game to win, 11-4.
Hawai`i improved its record to 22-21 overall and 10-5 in conference, while San Jose State dropped to 18-29 and 5-10 in WAC action. On the day,
Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu went 3-for-9 at the plate--all three hits were home runs that accounted for five RBI;
Audrey Andrade went 4-for-8 with a grand slam, three runs scored, and two doubles; and Amanda Tauali`i was 3-for-8 with four runs scored, a triple and a home run.

Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu launched a pair of two-run home runs and
Dara Pagaduan hit a solo shot to centerfield, while starting pitcher
Stephanie Ricketts earned the complete game win.
The Rainbow Wahine posted two runs in the top of the first on Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu's first home run of the day. It was an opposite field shot to right-centerfield. She drove in
Clare Warwick who had reached safely on an error on the shortstop. It was Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu's third home run of the season.
The Spartans responded in the bottom half of the inning, Taylor led off with an infield single to short. She moved to second on an error on the shortstop of Hayes ground ball that left runners on first and second. Fangonilo moved both runners into scoring position with a ground out to short and Bair came through with an RBI single to left to drive in Taylor from third. UH third baseman Warwick ended the inning by snaring a line drive and doubling off Bair at first .
UH got the run back in the second on Pagaduan's solo home run.
Katie Grimes followed with a single to left, but the rally stalled when SJSU's turned a 4U-to-3 double play and Fox got the final out on a fly to center.
In the third, UH added three more runs. Warwick started the inning by beating out an infield single to short. Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu followed by hitting her second home run of the game. This one was a high fly down the leftfield line.
Amanda Tauali'i then hit a single to center. A fly out to left was the first out of the inning, but pinch-hitter
Richie-Anne Titcomb and Pagaduan both hit into unsuccessful fielder's choices to load the bases for Grimes, who came through with an RBI single down the leftfield line. The three runs gave UH a 6-1 lead.
SJSU cut their deficit in half, posting two runs in the fourth. Fangonilo reached on an error on Pagaduan at second to start the inning. Bair then picked up her second RBI of the day on a double to the left-centerfield gap. On the play, Bair scored on a two-base error on the catcher. That left the score at 6-3 after four complete innings.
In the sixth, the Spartans scored another two runs on a double to centerfield that drove in both Hayes and Fangonilo, who had started the inning with back-to-back singles. But UH and its defense settled down to retire six of the next seven batters to end the game.
Ricketts (16-8, 9-3 WAC) fired seven innings, giving up five runs on six hits with no walks and three strike outs in her 20th complete game of the season.

The 'Bows fell behind early when the Spartans rallied with two outs to score one run in the first inning. Fangonilo started things off with a single to the right-centerfield gap. SJSU then got back-to-back singles by Bair and Lopez. Lopez's hit drove in Fangonilo from third to go up 1-0.
But UH overtook SJSU in the third by scoring four runs.
Tanisha Milca hit a double to the leftcenterfield gap to start the inning. An error on the shortstop allowed
Clare Warwick to reach safely. Then after a strike out, the 'Bows loaded the bases when
Amanda Tauali'i was hit by a pitch.
Audrey Andrade then launched a grand slam over the right-centerfield fence. It was her third home run of the season.
San Jose State started the fourth inning with a single by Bair who moved to second on a wild pitch. UH's starter, Gonzalez, was relieved by
Courtney Baughman who retired the side.
In the fifth, the 'Bows posted five runs, extending their lead to 9-1. Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu hit her third home run of the day to start the inning. It was her fifth of the season. Tauali`i followed by hitting back-to-back home runs. Tauali`i's 13th roundtripper of the year sailed over the rightfield fence. (It was the first time since last season's game against Utah State on May 4, 2008, that UH had back-to-back home runs by
Kate Robinson and
Clare Warwick.) Andrade followed with a double down the leftfield line. San Jose State starter, Pridmore, was then replaced by Mauer, but the 'Bows continued hitting. Kanani Pu`u-Warren drove in Andrade with a double to the right-centerfield gape and
Dara Pagaduan followed by driving in Pu`u-Warren with a double to the left-centerfield gap. Grimes then walked to put runners at first and second. A wild pitch by Mauer allowed Pagaduan to score UH's fifth run of the inning. Mauer then settled down and got the final two outs on a fly out to center and a fly out to right.
The Spartans answered immediately, getting three runs back in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor reached on a one-out single to left. Taylor tagged and advanced to second on a foul-fly out to leftfield, Fangonilo hit a triple down the leftfield line to score Taylor. Bair then hit a single up the middle to score Fangonilo from third. On the play, Bair advanced to second on the throw.
Stephanie Ricketts then entered the game, to face Lopez, who got a hit to left that scored Bair, who was running on two outs, from second. The final out of the inning was converted on a ground out to third.
Hawai`i got two of the runs back in the top of the sixth to put the game away. With one out, and a runner at first, Tauali`i hit into a fielder's choice that shortstop who flipped to second to force out Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu. Andrade followed with her third hit of the game, an opposite-field single to put runners at first and second. Pu`u-Warren then hit a two-run double to right-centerfield to score both Andrade and Tauali`i.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Spartans threatened to rally. With one out, Bair, who was 4-for-4 in the game, hit a double to left-center and Lopez followed by drawing a walk to put runners at first and second. But Ricketts settled down to strike out the next batter and got the final out on a foul fly to leftfield.
UH starter, Gonzalez, earned the win and is now 2-3 on the season. It was her first action on the mound for the 'Bows since Feb. 14's game against Kentucky in UNLV's tournament. Gonzalez threw 3.0 innings, giving up one run on four hits with one strike out. She also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-2 in the game. Baughman came in and threw 1.2 innings of middle relief. She gave up three runs on three hits with a strike out, and Ricketts fired the final 1.2 innings, yielding no runs, spacing four hits with a walk and a strike out.
San Jose State's Pridmore threw 4.1 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits with three strike outs. Mauer finished the final 2.2 innings, giving up four runs with four walks.
Andrade led the 'Bows at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and a grand slam. For Andrade, her four RBI was a career game-high, and her three hits tied her previous career best from last season's WAC tournament game against San Jose State on May 8, 2008. It also marked a career-high game for Pu`u-Warren as well. She went 2-for-2 with a run scored and three RBI. Her two hits and three RBI match her previous best which came earlier this year at Fresno State in the marathon 16 inning game.
Hawai`i will stay on the road and play a doubleheader against Santa Clara on Monday, April 20, before returning home to host the final two conference series of the year.
