Biography

2016 (Senior): A Big West honorable mention selection…made a team-leading 31 appearances, the most in the Mike Trapasso era…had a team second-best ERA of 2.16 in 50.0 innings pitched, finishing with a record of 3-1…had the most saves on the team with five, while striking out 37 batters and walking just five batters…gave the ‘Bows a solid relief effort at UC Davis (4/8), pitching 4.1 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five and picking up the win…went three innings to pick up the save versus Chicago State (3/19), striking out three and giving up one hit…got the final five outs to put away a win at #18 CS Fullerton (5/20).

2015 (Junior): Led the Hawai’i bullpen with 21 appearances, logging an 0-2 record and 6.15 ERA through 26.1 innings of work…Struck out 19 batters with only four (4) walks all year, collecting a team second-most four (4) saves (11th Big West)…His longest appearance was among his best, pitching 3.2 innings versus No. 15 Oregon, allowing just two (2) hits and striking out a season-high four (4) batters to earn his first UH save in the 10-1 victory—He had also provided 1.1 innings of scoreless, hitless relief the night before against the Ducks…Was also strong through 2.2 innings at Cal Poly (4/10), giving no hits or runs, while striking out three (3)…Earned a save in two (2.0) innings against Oklahoma (3/13), giving no hits and striking out one (1)…Secured the win and picked up the save as the closer against Baylor (3/6) at Minute Maid Park in Houston, blanking the bears in the ninth…Carried a pair of streaks without a walk, twice extending to seven (7) consecutive games…Held opponents without an earned run in 14 appearances, allowing no hits in seven (7) contests.
 
Prior To UH:  Played two (2) seasons at Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington under Mark Yoshino, aiding the Bulldogs to a 2013 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) North Region Championship…Twice named among the NWAACC All-Stars as a second team relief pitcher…As a sophomore, Culp pitched 24 innings of relief through14 games for BC, registering a 2-1 record and 2.25 ERA with three (3) saves, while striking out 24 and allowing just 14 hits…During his rookie season at BC, the reliever logged a 3.24 ERA through 17 appearances, registering a 2-1 record with three (3) saves, striking out 46 with only 11 walks in 50 innings pitched…Following his freshman season at Bellevue, Culp earned the program’s 2013 Most Valuable Pitcher Award…During his first summer league season while at BC, Culp was named to Perfect Game Collegiate League (PGCL) “Top Ten Rising Stars” list as the closer for the Watertown Rats…Playing for Watertown, Culp racked up four (4) saves with a 1.17 ERA, striking out 22 in 19.1 innings…Allowed just two (2) earned runs allowed during the summer...At Bellevue, Culp played alongside Hawai'i teammate Alex Hatch on the Bellevue pitching staff.

Prep: A 2012 graduate of Anacortes High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete, lettering in baseball for three (3) years, football for three (3) years and basketball for one (1) season…Playing his high school baseball under Pat Swapp at AHS, Culp earned honors following his senior season as a first team All-Northwest Conference 2A outfielder and second team pitcher, was All-Skagit County Pitcher and first team All-State (Wash.)…In addition, Culp received second team All-Northwest Conference honors as a quarterback for the football team following his junior and senior seasons…During his senior campaign, Culp earned statewide recognition as the 2A Washington Player of the Week  (April 19, 2012), after striking out 21 and allowing only four (4) hits through 12 combined innings in victories over Mount Baker and Sehome…During his final year at AHS, Culp Culp hit .388 and was 5-2 with a 3.74 ERA and 61 strikeouts as a pitcher.
