Mental Health Resources
This page is intended to provide a non-exhaustive list of possible mental health resources that might be helpful to / beneficial to our UHM collegiate student-athletes.  There are many valid resources which may not be included on this list.

What To Do In An Emergency
If you are experiencing any sort of medical or mental health emergency, or having suicidal thoughts, please seek immediate help.  If you feel that your life or someone else's life is in danger, please call 9-1-1 or go immediately to your nearest emergency room.   The Queen's Medical Center Emergency Room and Castle Hospital both have dedicated mental health emergency rooms.  Other options available include:
  • The UHM CSDC (Counseling and Student Development Center) maintains Urgent or crisis services daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – they can be reached at (808) 956-7927 - ask for “Blue Line”, and information is also available on their website at http://www.manoa.hawaii.edu/counseling/
  • The National Suicide Hotline is available by dialing “988”
  • Crisis Line of Hawaiʻi handles all types of mental health crisis questions 24 / 7, and can respond appropriately to questions of suicide, dangerousness, and other mental health crisis by calling (808) 832-3100.
  • The Crisis Text Line: Text “TWLOHA” or “HOME” to 741741

In addition to the mental health support and resources available through the UHM Athletic Department, there are a variety of resources available to help support the mental health of students and young adults.  The resources below are intended as a starting point, and this list is not intended to be an exhaustive list or intended to indicate the value of any resources, but as a guide to some available resources.

NCAA

NCAA “Mind, Body, Sport.”  https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2014/11/3/an-introduction-to-mind-body-and-sport.aspx

Campus
  • UHM Campus Mental Health - “CSDC” (Counseling and Student Development Center)
    • Offers a variety of confidential counseling services available to all students
    • If you are interested in counseling, please call CSDC at (808) 956-7927 or visit their website  www.manoa.hawaii.edu/counseling
  • A directory of valuable resources is available through the UHM CSDC as well, which can be found at:  http://www.manoa.hawaii.edu/counseling/help/
Community
  • Community Mental Health Resources
    • There are a wide range of therapist and community health resources available on Oahu.  The CSDC website is a good starting point for locating some of these resources.  In order for UHM Athletics to help cover the cost of mental healthcare, a student-athlete first must meet with a team physician to obtain a referral, as with all outside medical care.
