Softball Goes On The Road To Battle UC Santa Barbara

Game Notes

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i softball team (20-25, 4-8 Big West) heads to California this week to battle UC Santa Barbara (22-25, 5-7 BWC) in a three-game Big West Conference series. The two teams will play a single game on Friday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m. (PT)  and then concluded the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 beginning at 1:00 p.m. (PT). All three games will be played at Campus Diamond.
 
Senior Keiki Carlos continues to lead the Rainbow Wahine at the plate, hitting .296 overall (40-for-135). She leads UH with nine doubles on the season and is second on the squad with 24 runs scored and 40 hits (tied with Sarah Muzik). In conference action, Carlos is hitting .342 with a team-high 13 hits, eight runs scored, three doubles two home runs and five RBI.
 
Freshman Nicole Lopez is second on the team with a .291 batting average. She leads the team with 41 total hits in 141 at-bats. Lopez has solid numbers across the board with seven doubles, two triples, four home runs and 19 RBI. Fellow rookie Muzik leads the team with 25 runs scored and is tied with a team-high 17 walks with Carlos. Muzik is hitting .282 overall with three doubles and a triple with a team-high five stolen bases.
 
In the pitching circle, sophomore Brittany Hitchcock is 9-13 with a 2.28 ERA. She has three shutouts and has thrown 138.1 innings with just six walks to 85 strikeouts. She continues to lead the NCAA in DI in "walks allowed per seven innings" at 0.32.  Junior Kanani Aina Cabrales is 8-9 overall with a 3.63 ERA in 115.2 innings pitched. She has held opponents to a .257 batting average and has 30 walks to 70 strikeouts.
 
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are hitting .301 as a team and are led by Kristen Clark who is averaging .420 at the plate with a team-high 66 hits in 157 at-bats. She has also scored a team-high 37 runs which ranks her No. 5 in the conference. Clark also leads the Gauchos with 17 stolen bases in 21 attempts. Jessica Johnson is hitting .308 (45-for-146) with a team-high nine doubles and three triples. Arianna Palomares and Jaqueline Hinojosea are both hitting .307. Palomares leads the Gauchos with 29 RBI. In conference, Samantha Stark has led UCSB with a .393 batting average.
 
The Gauchos' pitching staff is comprised of five pitchers—led by Ashley Ludlow who has thrown a team-high 144.1 innings pitched. She has a 2.96 ERA and an 8-13 overall record with 63 walks and 135 strikeouts. Veronika Gulvin is 7-10 overall with a 3.44 ERA in 99.2 innings pitched.
