SAN DIEGO – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine women's track and field team wrapped up spring break on Saturday at the 38th Annual Aztec Invitational at San Diego State's Sports Deck and on the campus of UC San Diego. UH garnered 20 top 10 performances while adding five additional Big West Conference qualifiers in the process.
Leading the Rainbow Wahine out with gold-medal performances, Kapolei, O'ahu senior
Charlinda Ioane notched a first-place performance in the open shot put with a mark of 48-8.25 (14.84m), also finishing fourth in the invitational side of the event with a top performance of 48-10 (14.88m).
Sabrina Mendoza also finished seventh in the open event with a mark of 41-5.25 (12.63m).
Also finishing first, Chino Hills, Calif. senior
Robyn Brown collected the top spot in the 400m hurdles open and was sixth in the invitational, logging a top time of 62.39. Troutdale, Ore. junior
Courtney Andre' followed in the open with a third-place time of 64.43, earning a Big West mark.
Bakersfield, Calif. freshman
Camille Campos was one of four Rainbow Wahine to earn personal bests in the 5,000m, finishing first in the open event with a time of 18:17.03, edging out Peoria, Ariz. junior
Caitlyn Foss in second in the open at 18:17.05. Pacing the Rainbow Wahine in the event was Harbor City, Calif. junior
Montana Martinez, who earned a Big West invite with a 17:28.48, coming in seventh, while Tualatin, Ore. junior
Alli Cross also earned the BWC bid with an eighth-place mark of 17:41.13 in the invitational.
One of the best performances on the track for UH on the weekend was supplied by 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu sophomore
Sha'tres Ah Nee, who registered a BWC-qualifying and personal-best time of 25.25 in 200m.
Topping three 1500m runners with personal bests, Perth, Australia senior
Louise Mulvey logged a BWC-qualifying time of 4:35.98 to finish sixth in the invitational. Freshmen Haley Beamont (4:55.67) and
Tristan Setzer (4:55.95) both tabbed personal records. Mulvey also collected a seventh-place finish in the 800m invitational with a time of 2:13.58, while Langley, Canada senior
Jade Vaughan was sixth in the 800m open at 2:19.73.
Pacing thrower finishes, upstart Olympia, Wash. redshirt freshman
Karen Bulger was second in the open javelin, also coming in sixth in the invitational with a top mark of 146-11 (44.78m), while Wai'anae, O'ahu junior
Felicianna Vazquez was seventh in the invitational with a distance of 144-5 (44.03m), also seventh in the open.
St.-Cesaire, Canada senior
Alex Porlier Langlois earned a personal best in the invitational hammer throw with a mark of 173-4 (52.84m) to finish fifth, also logging a second-place finish in the open discus throw at 165-10 (50.54m). Ioane was just behind at fourth at 157-7 (48.04m), throwing further in the invitational to finish 10th at 161-5 (49.21m). Burlingame, Calif. junior
Sabrina Mendoza tabbed a pair of personal bests, with a BWC-qualifying mark of 125-10 (38.36m) and a hammer distance of 139-06 (42.53m) in the hammer.
Veracruz, Mexico senior
Tiziana Ruiz Dominguez reached fifth in both the open and invitational pole vault, maxing out at a height of 13-4.25 (4.07m).
The Rainbow Wahine are back at home next with the final home meet of the season in the Rainbow Relays, April 8-9 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex.
