Hawai'i 5, Iowa 4Box Score (html)The Hawkeyes (7-16) took advantage of a pair of Hawai'i errors in the fourth as they took a 3-0 lead. The Rainbow Wahine countered in the bottom half of the frame on
Tayana Mata's two-out pinch hit solo home run to left.
Hawai'i then roared back in the sixth, loading the bases with one out.
Breanna Ojala tied it at 3, with a two-run single to right field.
Ulu Matagiese then untied it with a rope up the middle to plate Mata as UH went ahead 4-3.
But Iowa squared it on Mallory Killan's solo homer in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for a dramatic bottom half of the frame as Hawai'i manufactured the walk-off winner.
Sarah Muzik drew a two-out walk then stole second. Lopez then drilled a liner to left as Muzik rounded third to score the winner.
Jennifer Iseri scattered seven hits to improve to 4-1 on the season for Hawai'i. Lopez went 2-for-4 at the dish while Mata scored twice.
Hawai'i 3, No. 25 Texas 2Box Score (html)As in the first game, UH fell behind 2-0 as the Longhorns (18-6) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings. But in the bottom of the fourth, Hawai'i tied it on Ojala's two-run blast to left.
Texas threatened to take the lead in the fifth, putting runners at the corners with no outs. But Rainbow Wahine starter
Brittany Hitchcock beared down, getting three outs to leave the inning unscathed. One of them included a heads up play from catcher
Heather Cameron who tagged out runner Lindsey Stephens trying to come home on a squeeze play.
Then in the bottom half of the sixth, Mata led off with a walk then moved to second on
Rachael Turner's sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Mata drew a walk but the pitch went into the dirt as Mata took off for third. The catcher then tried to gun her down at the bag, but her throw skipped past the third baseman into foul territory, allowing Mata to score the go-ahead run.
The Longhorns managed to get the tying run on base with one out via a UH error but Hitchcock slammed the door with a strikeout and a weak grounder to first.
UH starting pitcher
Brittany Hitchcock improved to 6-7 on the season, tossing a seven-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks.
Hawai'i closes out the tournament Saturday when its faces Iowa at 12 p.m., followed by Texas at 2 p.m.
