HONOLULU-The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (5-4, 0-0 Big West) overwhelmed BYU-Hawai`i (3-3, 0-0 PacWest), 92-40 on Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. In the win, senior Shawna-Lei Kuehu scored 15 points to became the 18th Rainbow Wahine to record 1,000 points and just the 10th to tally 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Freshman Dalayna Sampton scored a game-high 16 points off the bench while Ashleigh Karaitiana chipped with with 11 and Sarah Toeaina adding 10.

Kuehu scored just two points in the first half, then turned on the jets to score 13 of UH's first 21 points in the second half. She converted an old-fashioned three-point play to score her 1,000th point on the 'and-one' free throw to cheers from the bench and the crowd. She also pulled down a game-high six rebounds with three assists, two blocks and a steal in just 21 minutes of action. For Kuehu-a sixth year local product from 'Aiea, O'ahu and Punahou School-it's been a long journey to her 1,000th point in a career which spans three coaching staffs, a season-ending knee injury as a true freshman and the birth of her daughter as a sophomore. Earlier this season, she corralled her 500th rebound against Prairie View A&M on Nov. 28 and currently has 524 career rebounds. Kuehu is also ranked No. 7 in the record books with 94 blocked shots.

Hawai`i started the game fast right out of the gate, scoring the game's first 14 points before BYUH was able to hit one of two free throws with 15:22 left in the half. The 'Bows went on to lead 26-3 with 12:20 left on the clock. UH would close the first half with a 33-point lead, 50-17. The 'Bows picked up right where they left off in the second half, increasing their lead to as much as 54 points. The 52-point margin of victory tied for the third highest in school history.

All 14 UH players suited up saw action on the floor with 13 scoring at least one point in the game. Sampton was an efficient 6-of-7 in field goals and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to score her career-high 16 points. She also had four rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Karaitiana was 5-of-8 with a trey and two boards to go with three assists, while Toeaina scored a career-high 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting with a trey.

Raja Moreno-Ross saw significant time, scoring her first six points as a Rainbow Wahine and tied with Kuehu with a team-high six rebounds. Freshmen Breana Jones and Jasmine Redmon also notched their first collegiate points and fellow freshman Justice Toailoa along with Redmon saw their action donning the Green and White in their careers.

BYU-Hawai`i was led by Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo's 15 points while Whitney Fieldsted pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

Hawai`i overwhelmed the Seasiders, outscoring BYUH 70-to-10 in the paint; 39-to-11 in points off of turnovers, and 45-to-10 in bench scoring. The 'Bows shot a season-high 62.3% in field goals and outrebounded BYUH, 36-to-29. The 92 points in the win was the most since the Rainbow Wahine scored 97 in an overtime win over SMU at home on Mar. 9, 2001. Hawai'i held the Seasiders to an all-time low of nine field goals made (previous low was 11 against San Jose State (Jan. 31, 1996) and Cal State Fullerton (Mar. 9, 2013).

The Rainbow Wahine will now hit the road for a pair of games starting at Loyola Marymount on Dec. 20 and Dec. 23 at Cal State Bakersfield.
