HONOLULU — University of Hawai'i women's basketball freshman
Taryn Bond has been selected to compete for Australia in the upcoming FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup in Malaysia.
The eight-team event is scheduled for Oct. 4-10 in Seremban. Australia will open the tournament against the Philippines on Oct. 4 and will also face New Zealand and Korea in Group A play. China, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia are in Group B. The second and third seeds in the groups meet in the quarterfinals, with the top seeds advancing to the semifinals. The top four finishers qualify for the FIBA Under-19 World Cup.
Australia has won the last two U18 Women's Asia Cup titles. UH sophomore
Teyahna Bond, Taryn's sister, was part of the 2024 championship team.
Taryn Bond previously played for Australia's national team in the FIBA U17 Women's Oceania Cup in 2025. She averaged 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while helping Australia win gold.
Bond is the second Rainbow Wahine player to compete in international competition in recent months. Sophomore guard
Bailey Flavell played with New Zealand's national team in the FIBA Pre-Olympic Qualification Tournament in Mexico in August.
Bond has been practicing with the Rainbow Wahine in preparation for her freshman season and will rejoin the team following the Asia Cup. UH will make its debut in an exhibition game against Hawai'i Pacific on Oct. 21 and officially opens
Khalilah Mitchell's first season as head coach at Oregon on Nov. 2.
