Women's Basketball Rolls Past HPU in Exhibition Win

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team raced to a 90-38 victory over Hawai'i Pacific University in Wednesday's exhibition game at Bankoh Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Wahine stormed out to a 13-3 lead and kept up the pace through the final buzzer in their first public appearance under the leadership of new head coach Khalilah Mitchell.

Sophomore guard Bailey Flavell led all scorers with 27 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the field. The 'Bows shot 57.1% as a team and scored 58 points in the paint.

Center Ritorya Tamilo posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Teyahna Bond added 13 points, and her younger sister, Taryn Bond, finished with nine points. Senior guard Jovi Lefotu also scored nine points, seven coming in the third quarter.

All 10 UH players who saw action contributed to the scoring, and eight recorded an assist.

The 'Bows took the opening tipoff and scored six seconds into the game on a layup by Rebecca Moors, opening the game on a 13-3 run. UH made 10 of 15 shots from the field and led 27-7 after the first 10 minutes. Tamilo had eight points in the second quarter, and the 'Bows stretched the lead to 48-20 going into halftime.

Flavell and Lefotu both went 3-for-3 from the field and hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter as the 'Bows closed out the exhibition victory.

The Rainbow Wahine officially open the 2026-27 season, and Mitchell's tenure as head coach, with a two-game road trip starting Nov. 2 at Oregon. The 'Bows will also face San Francisco on the trip and make their home debut on Nov. 13 against Saint Mary's.
