HONOLULU—The No. 20/23 University of Hawai`i softball team (20-7, 0-0 Big West) split its doubleheader on Friday night on the third day of the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament. The 'Bows picked up their 20th win of the season with a shut out over Syracuse, 2-0, but fell to No. 19/14 Baylor, 5-3 in the nightcap at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Parnaby raised her record to 18-2 on the season with her 23rd complete game and tied her career high with her ninth shut out of the season. She threw seven innings, spacing two hits with no walks and 11 strike outs in the game. Up through the Syracuse game, Parnaby had thrown the last 70 straight innings for UH. During that span, Parnaby has gone 9-1 with six shut outs in 10 complete games. She has struck out 96 while walking just six with a 0.64 ERA. Overall this season, Parnaby has tossed nine shutouts with 20 complete games, 189 strike outs and 22 walks in 148.2 innings pitched.
UH got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, posting one run to break the scoreless game.
Jessica Iwata led the inning off with a walk and later stole second on a fake bunt by
Sharla Kliebenstein.
Jazmine Zamora then hit a bouncing single up the middle and Iwata came racing around third and did a hook slide reaching back to touch the plate just in front of the sweeping tag by the Syracuse catcher.
Hawai`i added another run in the bottom of the fifth to lead the Orange, 2-0 after five complete innings. UH started the inning with two consecutive hits by
Brynne Buchanan and
Kelly Majam. But
Kayla Wartner then hit a line drive back to the pitcher, Lindsay Taylor, who caught Majam off the bag at first in a close play.
Keiki Carlos then was plunked to put runners at first and second again. Iwata then hit a single up the middle to score Buchanan from second.
Syracuse's Lindsay Taylor suffered the loss in her second complete game on the day. She threw 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on six hits with a walk and seven strike outs.

Freshman pitcher
Loie Kesterson got her first start of her career for Hawai`i. She got out of jam in the first inning, after allowing the first two batters to reach on two consecutive singles to start the game. But she settled down to get a pair of groundouts and a fly out to left to end the rally.
In the top of the second, the Bears posted one run. Robin Landrith reached on a single and went to second when Holly Holl walked. Kelsi Kettler then hit a ground ball up the middle and Zamora made a diving stop and popped up to tag the runner going to second, but threw the ball past the first baseman which allowed Landrith to score on the error.
Baylor added another run in the top of the fourth. Landrith drilled a two-out triple down the first base line and came home on an RBI single through the leftside of the infield to go up 2-0.
Hawai`i answered right back in the bottom of the fourth inning, knotting the score at 2-2.
Jessica Iwata led off with a walk and pinch runner
Tara Anguiano entered for Iwata at first. After a strike out, Kliebenstein blasted a two-run home run over the high outfield net and into the tennis courts beyond centerfield. It was Kliebenstein's fourth home run of the season and 25th of her career.
But Baylor responded with three runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Sarah Smith and a single by Landrith who drove in two runs to give the Bears a 5-2 lead.
Hawai`i got one run back on a solo home run by Leisha Li`ili`i in the sixth inning. It was Li`ili`i's 14th career home run and her fourth of the season.
Kesterson took the loss, dropping her record to 0-2. She gave up five runs on 10 hits in five innings of work with two walks.
Keiki Carlos threw the final 2.0 innings, allowing just one hit with a strike out. Kesterson's start broke Parnaby's streak of 70 straight innings pitched.
Whitney Canion earned the win for Baylor, raising her record to 13-3 on the season. She threw 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and 11 K's.
Hawai`i ended the pool play portion of the tournament with a 2-2 record and the No. 3 seed. UH will face Baylor, the No. 2 Seed with a 3-1 record, at 2:00 pm on Saturday.
