HENDERSON, Nev.--The No. 20/23 University of Hawai`i softball team fell to Nevada, 11-9 in their final game of the Easton Desert Classic in Henderson, Nev. on Sunday afternoon. In the game, senior centerfielder Kelly Majam launched two home runs and crossed the plate three times, to first tie and then break the UH career record for runs scored with her 188.

Majam--who already held the UH career records in home runs (58) and walks (128)--passed former UH All-American Tia Morenz's record of 187 in four seasons from 1998-98. Majam has a team-high four home runs this season--all coming in this past tournament in Nevada and she's been walked a team-high 11 times.

UH scored three runs in the top of the first. Majam led the game off with an opposite-field home run to left. It was the 13th time in her career that she's led a game off with a home run. Majam has four career games in which she's hit two homers--three coming in games which started with a leadoff bomb.

After Majam hit her first HR, Keiki Carlos hit a one-out double to left and Jessica Iwata followed with a single through the leftside of the inifield. Leisha Li`ili`i then came through with a double to left to drive in Carlos and Iwata for the 3-0 lead.

But Nevada would overtake the 'Bows in the bottom of the first, posting four runs of their own. UH starter Carlos, plunked the first batter and walked the next. Erin Jones then loaded the bases with a single to left and Sara Parsons ripped a double down the leftfield line to score both Karley Hopkins and Megan Sweet. Carlos was then lifted in favor of fellow freshman pitcher, Loie Kesterson. Ashley Butera followed with a sac fly to right to score Jones and Lauren Lastrapes had an RBI single to give the Wolf Pack a 4-0 lead after one complete inning.

Majam then hit her second round-tripper of the day to tie the game at 4-4. Kayla Wartner walked and Carlos hit a ball to left that resulted in an error that allowed Wartner to come all the way home for the go-ahead run and a 5-4 lead.

Nevada didn't score in the second, but erupted for three runs in the third on a two-run home run by Lastrapes and a solo homer by Megan Fincher to retake the lead, 7-5.

But Hawai`i responded in the top of the fourth, capitalizing on three straight hits. Majam started the rally with a one-out single to right followed by Wartner who had the exact same result putting runners at first and second. A wild pitch pushed both runners into scoring position for Carlos who ripped her second double of the game to left-centerfield. two batters later, Carlos came home on a Li`ili`i single to right that gave UH a 8-7 lead.

Nevada would see-saw back in front for good in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out rally. Jones hit a double and Parsons cranked a two-run home run to give Nevada a 9-8 lead. The Wolf Pack added two more runs on a home run in the sixth by Jones to give them an 11-8 lead.

Hawai`i got one run back on Jazmine Zamora's solo home run in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to catch Nevada. It was Zamora's second career home run, both hit in this past tournament.

UH's Kesterson (0-1) suffered the loss throwing 5.1 innings. She gave up seven runs on nine hits with two walks and two strike outs. Carlos, who started and ended the game, threw 0,2 innings giving up four runs with a walk.

Nevada's Brewer started the game and fired 3.1 innings, giving up eight runs on nine hits with three strike outs and a walk. K. Jones (3-2) came in relief to pick up the win, throwing the final 3.2 innings, allowing just one run on four hits with five K's.

Hawai`i returns home and has a week off before beginning a 21-game homestand in the month of March. Next up for the 'Bows is a single game vs. Memphis on Feb. 27 before starting the Bank of Hawaii Invitational, March 1-3 with Western Kentucky, Campbell, and Memphis participating.
