STANFORD, Calif. – University of Hawai'i middle distance runner
Ashley Aitken posted the fourth fastest time in school history in the 1,500-meter run on the first day of the Stanford Invitational, Friday, at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
The senior won her section, completing the race in 4:30.51, the fastest mark for a UH athlete in six years.
After placing 10
th in the high jump at the same meet a year ago, junior
Sarah Saddleton finished second with a clearance of 5-9.25 (1.76m), losing the tiebreaker in jumps to California's Kristen Meister. Sophomore
Samantha Balentine was eighth at 5-5.25 (1.66m).
Junior
TeRina Keenan took third in the shot put at 41-10.75 (12.77m) while senior
Careena Onosai was seventh at 38-11.75 (11.88m). Both are slated to compete in the discus event on Saturday.
Junior
Emma MacCorquodale placed fifth in the hammer throw invitational with a heave of 179-4 (54.67m), besting her performance from last year's meet which she placed eighth.
The meet concludes on Saturday with another full-day of events.
