HONOLULU—The No. 16/20 University of Hawai`i softball team (22-5) came from behind to down Cleveland State, 2-1 on the opening day of the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament. Stephanie Ricketts earned her 13th win of the season with a complete game effort.

Ricketts (13-4) gave up one run and scattered three hits with a walk and eight strike outs while retiring the last eight batters in a row.

The Vikings got on the scoreboard first, posting one run in the top of the first inning. The lead-off batter Jessica Burt reached on a fielding error on the shortstop and then, after two strike outs, Dara Toman hit a double to right field to drive in Burt all the way from first.

Hawai`i tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Kelly Majam. It was Majam's fifth home run of the season and 35th of her career, moving her into a tie for third all-time in UH history with Amanda Tauali`i.

The 'Bows jumped ahead of Cleveland State in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dara Pagaduan led off with a walk, and after a strike out, she moved to second on a single to right-centerfield by Alex Aguirre. Pagaduan then came home for the eventual winning run on a double drilled to the left-center gap by Sharla Kliebenstein. Jenna Rodriguez followed with a line drive to short who picked off Aguirre who had strayed off the bag at third for the inning ending double play to thwart UH's rally.

Tess Sito (7-5) took the loss also throwing a complete game. She gave up two runs on five hits with two walks and nine strike outs.

The Rainbow Wahine continue the tournament with a doubleheader on Thursday, facing BYU at 5:00 pm and Iona College at 7:00 pm.
