HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i softball team launched three home runs to defeat its Alumnae Team, 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Pitchers
Stephanie Ricketts and
Kaia Parnaby combined for a four-hit shut-out.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Freshman first baseman Kayla Wartner led the inning off with a double and later sophomore catcher
Sharla Kliebenstein reached on an error on the shortstop. Sophomore
Jazmine Zamora then pinch hit and blasted a three-run home run to centerfield to give UH the early 3-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, junior centerfielder
Kelly Majam led the inning off with a single and was followed by junior shortstop
Jessica Iwata's two-run bomb to centerfield to extend UH's lead to 5-0.
Hawai`i added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning when senior
Shannon Lum drilled an opposite-field solo home run to left-centerfield to cap the scoring at 6-0.
Senior starting pitcher
Stephanie Ricketts fired the first four innings and gave up just two hits with a walk and six strike outs. Junior southpaw,
Kaia Parnaby closed the game, tossing the final three innings. She gave up two hits with seven strike outs and no walks.
The Alumnae Team got singles from Brandi Peiler,
Melissa Gonzalez and
Traci Yoshikawa and a double off the bat of Kanani Pu`u-Warren. The alums were represented well with over 25 former players in attendance representing teams from the 80's to last year's seniors Gonzalez and
Jenna Rodriguez.
Hawai`i will now play Chaminade in a three-game series starting with a single game on Friday, Nov. 4 at 6:00 pm. UH will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10:00 am.
