HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (16-32, 5-17) beat to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (19-31, 5-20) 8-4 at the Les Murakami Stadium Thursday.
Chris George (6-4) picked up the win for UH, while Lee Gwaltney (3-11) got the loss for the Bulldogs. The ticket attendance at the stadium was 2,342.
Hawai`i jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Tim Montgomery hit an infield single and a throwing error brought in two runs before Derek Honma hit a two-run single to put the 'Bows up 4-0.
Louisiana Tech answered back in the third inning when Ryan Jackson hit a home run over the left field wall to cut the lead to 4-1.
The 'Bows again had a big inning in the sixth, as Brian Bock and Lane Nogawa drove in a run each before a Bulldog error added another to put the lead up to 7-1.
Scooter Martines then scored the Rainbow's last run of the game in the seventh when he hit his first home run of the year to make the score 8-1. The Bulldogs added three unearned runs in the eighth inning but it wasn't enough as the Rainbows took the game 8-4.
Nogawa led UH with a 2-for-5 night with one run and one RBI. Martines added two runs and one RBI on a 1-for-3 game while Honma went 1-for-3 with two RBI. George pitched eight innings, giving up just one earned run and four hits, while striking out 10 and walking just one.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. with Sean Yamashita and Casey Blalock scheduled to be the pitchers.
