RENO, Nev. – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (16-37, 5-22) fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack (25-29, 10-17) 14-1 in front of 1,019 fans at Peccole Park Monday. Darrell Rasner (6-7) got the win while
Bryan Lee (2-3) picked up the loss for the Rainbows.
The Wolf Pack got on the board first as Mike Hass hit a two RBI single to put the team up 2-0 in the bottom of the first. A Chris Dickerson home run in the second inning extended the lead to 3-0 before Lane Nogawa got the 'Bows' first hit of the game.
But Nevada kept rolling, scoring four runs in the third to put the Wolf Pack up 7-0. From there, it was all Darrell Rasner. Rasner ended the game going seven innings, giving up just four hits and one run, while striking out 11.
Chad Boudon put a little excitement into the Rainbow fans as he hit a solo shot over the left-center fence to stop the shutout in the top of the seventh. But Nevada wasn't done as they hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning, before scoring four more runs to extend the lead to 14-1.
Boudon led the Rainbows with a 1-for-2 day with his homer, while Danny Mocny, Nogawa and Arthur Guillen added doubles. Sean Yamashita provided 4.2 solid innings of relief, giving up just two runs with two strikeouts.
The 'Bows will now head to Fresno, Calif., for a three-game series with the Fresno State Bulldogs May 24-26. It will be the final series for Hawai`i in 2002.
