Rainbows Fall to the 'Pack 5-0

Box Score

HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-21, 2-6 WAC) fell to the University of Nevada Wolf Pack (15-16, 3-5 WAC) 5-0 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Mateo Miramontes (4-4) picked up the complete game shutout for Nevada, while Sean Yamashita (2-3) got the loss. The ticketed attendance for the game was 2,489.

Miramontes was the story for the Wolf Pack as he gave up just five hits while striking out eight without a walk. Yamashita was again impressive for Hawai`i, going seven innings with just one earned run. The senior also had seven strikeouts with just two walks.

Gregg Omori led the Rainbow bats with a 2-for-4 performance. Lane Nogawa, Brian Bock and Julian Russell were the only other 'Bows who mustered a hit off Miramontes.

The Wolf Pack got one run in the third and another in the sixth before getting a big three-run inning in the eighth inning to provide more than enough insurance for their pitcher.

Hawai`i will close out the series with Nevada tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium. Ricky Bauer is scheduled to start for the 'Bows with James Holcomb scheduled to start for Nevada.
