Box Score

RUSTON, La. -- The University of Hawai`i baseball team (14-22, 3-7) defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (2-11) 6-4 at the J.C. Love Field Saturday in front of a crowd of 839. Chris George (4-2) pitched a complete game for the victory while Lee Gwaltney (3-7) picked up the loss.

George picked up a complete game victory, giving up four runs while striking out seven and walking three. The junior has now won each of his last four starts, and is 4-0 since becoming the staff ace.

The Rainbows got on the board first in the third inning as Lane Nogawa drove in Brian Bock from third base. Scooter Martines then hit a two-out double to drive in two more runs and put Hawai`i up 3-0.

The Bulldogs then responded in the fourth inning, loading the bases for Brandon Haygood, who hit a deep drive over the left center field wall for the grand slam. Tech again loaded the bases in the fifth inning, but George stranded all three runners to keep the 'Bows within one run.

Hawai`i finally got the blast they needed in the seventh inning, as Gregg Omori hit a towering three-run homer to left center to give the 'Bows the 6-4 lead.

From there, it was all George, as he retired the last nine batters, taking the game 6-4.

Martines led the 'Bows with a 2-for-5 performance with a double and two RBI. Omori added a 1-for-2 day with three RBI and one run scored, while Lane Nogawa hit 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow at 1 p.m. CDT. Sean Yamashita is scheduled to pitch for Hawai`i while Casey Blalock will take the mound for Louisiana Tech.
