Rainbows Drop Opener to Anteaters 8-1

HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (6-8) fell to the UC Irvine Anteaters (10-9) 8-1 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday night. UH's Bryan Lee was credited with his first loss of the year well Sean Tracey of UC Irvine picked up the win. The ticketed attendance for the game was 2,488.

The Anteaters struck first in the first inning with a line drive single by R.J. Brown. Hawai`i then responded in the third inning with a Lane Nogawa RBI double to tie the score at one.

But from there it was all Irvine as they scored a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before adding four more in the seventh and eighth to end the game with the 8-1 margin.

Nogawa led the way for Hawai`i, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Sean Yamashita had two strikeouts in just 1.1 innings of work while Chad Giannetti pitched two innings with two strikeouts.

Leading the way for UCI was R.J. Brown, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Jordan Szabo added a 4-for-5, one RBI, one run performance while Brett Smith added a homer of his own.

The two teams will play again tomorrow with a 6:35 p.m. start time at the Les Murakami Stadium. The starting pitchers are scheduled as Aaron Pribble for UH and Brett Smith for UC Irvine. The teams will then conclude the series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
