WARRIORS GROUND AIR FORCE

Box Score

(HONOLULU)-University of Hawai'i wide receiver Ashley Lelie caught nine passes for a school and Western Athletic Conference record 285 yards and three touchdowns to lead Hawai'i past Air Force, 52-30, in a non-conference game Saturday night at Aloha Stadium.

The Warrior offense, led by quarterback Nick Rolovich who passed for a career-high 505 yards and five touchdowns, gained 572 total yards and scored 52 points for the second straight week.

Air Force (5-6) fell despite gaining 545 yards on the ground, the most allowed by the Warriors in school history.

The Warriors wasted no time getting on the board. Rolovich orchestrated a 5-play, 80-yard drive capped by a 7-yard touchdown run by Mike Bass to put Hawai'i up, 6-0, on its first possession of the game.

Air Force managed to move the ball gaining 246 yards in the first half, but weren't able to hold on to it. The Hawai'i defense forced two fumbles in their own territory and the Warrior offense turned it into 10 points to take a 24-7 lead at the break.

Air Force dashed out of the locker room scoring on its first drive of the second half when Anthony Butler ran it in from 6-yards out. The Falcons looked to cut the lead to three after a UH fumble, but were unable to convert on third down and forced a 46-yard field goal attempt by Brooks Walters that sailed wide.

After that, the Warriors went to work. Rolovich hit Craig Stutzmann for a 2-yard touchdown and Lelie for a 47-yard score in the third quarter to take a 38-21 lead entering the final stanza.

The Falcons cut the lead to 14 at 38-24 on a 29-yard field goal by Walters, but UH's Chad Owens broke the Air Force wings when he returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, the longest in UH history since joining the NCAA in 1946.

Owens who lit up the Aloha Stadium crowd of 41,148, put the Warriors in command, 45-24 with 9:59 left to play. Lelie caught his third touchdown pass, a 76-yard bomb with 7:40 left to play, to complete the UH scoring card.

Four Warriors finished the game with double-digit tackles, including linebacker Chris Brown and safety Jacob Espiau who had 13 each. Free safety Nate Jackson had 11, while strong safety Robert Grant finished with a career-high 10 total tackles.

The Warriors will take next week off to prepare for the final game of the regular season against Brigham Young Dec. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. at Aloha Stadium.
