His most memorable experiences at UH are: “After the 1969 season and winning two ‘Defensive Hitter of the week’ awards, Coach Holmes said: ‘In order to best utilize his contagious enthusiasm and other leadership qualities Murray has been selected by the coaches to be Special Teams Captain for the 1970 season.’ Larry Price said: ‘I can honestly say Murray gave me a thrill, the hardest tackle I have ever seen, against Santa Clara, that one tackle changed the personality of the game. It was a kick off at the beginning of the second half, Just a coach's dream.’ 

Mahalo I say to the fans, UH Athletic Scholarship, Bachelor Degree in Education, and Aloha Spirit. In 30 years of teaching I have been able to give back what so many have given to me.” 

The best advice he received in life came from Dr. Donnis Thompson, UH Professor: “It's Physical Education, not P.E.”
