The University of Hawai'i men's golf team will tee off its 2026-27 season at the CDA National Reserve Invitational, running Monday, Sept. 21, and Tuesday, Sept. 22, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Hosted by Eastern Washington, the 54-hole season-opening tournament will be held at the CDA National Reserve. Following a practice round on Sunday, participants will play 36 holes on Monday and conclude with a final 18-hole round on Tuesday. Both days of tournament competition will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
The inaugural event is a brand-new NCAA Division I tournament premiering this fall, created by Eastern Washington as its premier home host event as the Eagles rebuild their men's golf program. Competition will take place on a Tom Weiskopf-designed championship course at the CDA National Reserve—a venue originally built as The Club at Rock Creek before undergoing a major revitalization and rebrand.
The Rainbow Warriors will face a competitive 16-team field to open the fall schedule. Joining Hawai'i and host Eastern Washington are Boise State, Fresno State, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon State, Pacific, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, Seattle U, Tarleton State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and Washington State.
The Rainbow Warriors' lineup features
Josh Hayashida,
Alec Hilgers,
Campbell Kerr,
Dane Watanabe, and
Stryker Leick, with
Troy Gadalla competing as an individual. Hayashida returns to the lineup after missing last season due to injury; he led the team in scoring during the 2024-25 season with a 72.96 average. Watanabe enters his senior year having competed in every tournament of his career, coming off a junior campaign in which he led the team with a 72.97 average.
Hilgers also brings key experience to the lineup after competing in all 10 tournaments as a freshman last season. Meanwhile, Kerr, Leick, and Gadalla will all be making their first appearances as Rainbow Warriors.
The 2026-27 campaign marks the sixth season for head coach
Scott Simpson at the helm of the program. This year also ushers in a highly anticipated new era for Hawai'i, as the team embarks on its first season competing as a member of the Mountain West Conference.
