Men's Golf 05.21.2026 Neal Iwamoto 2025-26 Men's Golf Season In Review SEASON HIGHLIGHTS The Rainbow Warriors competed in 10 tournaments during the 2025-26 campaign, culminating with their highest-ever finish at the Big West Championship (t-4th) in their final year in the conference.Head coach Scott Simpson completed his fifth season at the helm and led UH to its fifth-best scoring average (292.15) in program history despite playing without its best two returning golfers – Anson Cabello and Josh Hayashida – for much of the season.The team also placed fourth at the inaugural Pearl at Kalauao Invitational in November, posting a 4-under 860 total which tied for the lowest score-to-par on the season with the Ka‘anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER (4-under 848)Dane Watanabe, who competed in all 10 tournaments, led the team with a 72.97 scoring average and posted the team’s top two single-round scores.The Kane‘ohe, O‘ahu native was named All-Big West honorable mention after finishing sixth at the conference tournament. His 7-under 65 in the second round was the lowest single-round ever recorded by a Rainbow Warrior at the conference tournament.Cabello, who competed in all three fall tournaments shooting par or better in 8 of 9 rounds, missed the spring season. His 10-under 203 at the Ka‘anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER was the team’s top 54-hole score on the year.Cabello qualified and participated in the PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawai‘i in January.Four golfers competed in all 10 tournaments – Watanabe, Nathan Szpakowicz, James Whitworth, and freshman Alec Hilgers.Whitworth, a senior from Carlsbad, Calif., led the team with 12 rounds of par or better while Watanabe and Szpakowicz each posted the team’s best score in four tournaments.Watanabe, Whitworth, and Szpakowicz were named to College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.
