Men's Tennis Open 2026 Hosting Three Home Dual Matches

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team hosts three dual matches to open the 2026 season this week. The Rainbow Warriors will kick the season off against 15th-ranked California on Wednesday, Jan. 7 and follow that match up will a game against Gonzaga on Friday, January 9th. The Rainbow Warriors will close the week out against Washington on Saturday, Jan. 10th. All three dual matches will be played  at the UH Tennis Complex all with the first serve slated for 4:00 p.m. HT.

The Rainbow Warriors return just two letterwinners--Azuma Visaya and Tianhao Hou--from last year's squad that posted a 4-17 overall record while finishing sixth in the Big West at 1-5. This Fall, the 'Bows welcomed in sevn newcomers includng four transfers and three true freshmen. The four transfers are graduate student Timothy Li (Valley Village, Calif.) who followed Visaya to UH from UCLA. Junior transfer Kosuke Nakanishi (Hiroshima, Japan) comes to Hawai'i after spending two seasons at Louisville, while both Adriano Dzhenev (Haskova, Bulgaria) and Ziwen Ju (Beijing, China) are both sophomore transfers from Central Florida and Wichita State respectivley. UH's freshmen include Toa Maeda (Chiba, Japan), Kent Mueller (Stuttgart, Germany) and Hikaru Takahashi (Kanagawa, Japan).

Visaya leads the Rainbow Warriors into the 2026 season after a solid fall, willing the Big West's Fall Invitational which qualified him to play in the ITA's Conference Master's Championship. Visaya ended with a 6-4 fall record. Li finished his fall campaign with a 6-6 singles record while Mueler concluded his first collegiate action with a 4-5 singles record.
