Men's Tennis

Pollock Joins Men's Tennis Coaching Staff

HONOLULU — University of Hawai'i men's tennis head coach Hendrik Bode has bolstered his coaching staff with the addition of decorated veteran coach, Dan Pollock.

Pollock brings an impressive résumé spanning nearly two decades across all levels of collegiate tennis. He holds a career head coaching record of 127-58 and an overall coaching record of 291–189. Recognized as one of the premier developers of talent in the collegiate ranks, Pollock was named the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year while leading the Johns Hopkins women's program. Additionally, he earned ITA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honors in Division I (Utah, 2018) and Division II (Hawai'i Hilo, 2010).

A familiar face in the islands, Pollock's hiring at UH marks his third coaching stop in the Aloha State. Pollock earned his Bachelor's degree in health and physical education with highest honors from the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, where he also was a standout NCAA Division II student-athlete. As a Vulcan, Pollock was named the ITA's Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship & Leadership Award winner. He was a two-time UHH Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and an All-Pacific West Conference selection, leading the team to a national ranking of No. 25.

Most recently, Pollock served as the head men's (2024-26) and women's (2024-25) tennis coach at Hawai'i Pacific, leading the men's team to a No. 18 ITA ranking while guiding the women's team to a No. 43 ITA ranking. Both teams advanced to the second round of their respective NCAA tournaments. Pollock took over the reins at HPU from former Sharks' head coach and current UH men's head tennis coach, Hendrik Bode.

Pollock's coaching pedigree includes successful stints at Division I institutions including UIC (Illinois Chicago), Idaho, BYU, Utah, Butler, and Maryland.

Beyond his on-court leadership, Pollock brings an extensive background in exercise physiology and sports science. He earned his M.S. in kinesiology (applied exercise physiology) from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed doctoral coursework (ABD) in exercise science & health at the University of Idaho. Additionally, Pollock is certified as a Player Development Specialist through the United States Tennis Association (USTA) High Performance Coaching Program.
