SEATTLE – Two distance runners posted program top 10 marks to lead the way for the Hawai'i women's track and field team on day one of the indoor season at the UW Preview Friday.
Mikaella Martin turned in a top-five program mark in the 3000m while
Lucy Becker cracked the UH top 10 in the mile with a personal best effort, and a pair of UH throwers turned in strong opening performances.
In her UH debut, mid-year transfer Martin added her name to the program's 3000m top 10 with a mark of 9:46.74 to finish second in the meet. Martin is just the sixth woman in program history to run under 9:50 in the 3000m.
Becker added to the strong start for the Hawai'i distance squad by turning in the 10th-best indoor mile in school history. The sophomore posted a huge PR with a time of 5:03.87, beating her previous best by over 10 seconds.
The Rainbow Wahine throwers started off the action on opening day of the season with a pair of top 10 meet finishes in the weight throw.
Samaria Vital came in sixth with a mark of 15.76m (51-8.5) and
Valo Sopoaga finished eighth with a toss of 15.26m (50-0.75).
