LONG BEACH, Calif. – Following a monster performance over the weekend at the conference championships,
Lilian Turban was named the Big West Field Athlete of the Meet Wednesday.
Turban took home two conference individual titles while adding a point in another event to finish the meet with 21 points. The Tallinn, Estonia native earned the league title in the high jump for the second time in her career (2023) while taking home the javelin title for the first time in her career.
On day one Turban pulled off an impressive double in the high jump and shot put, first winning the league high jump title by clearing a height of 1.81m (5-11.25). Turban also came in eighth and put up a single point in the shot put, going back-and-forth between the two events to throw a toss of 14.41m (47-3.5) and finish eighth.
Turban wrapped up her meet by posting a personal best in the javelin with a toss of 46.53m (152-8) to secure her second conference title of the weekend. In the process, Turban became the first UH athlete ever to earn gold in two different field (non multis) events at a conference championship meet. She is also the first Big West athlete ever to win both the javelin and high jump titles in the same year.
Up next, Turban will compete in both the high jump and javelin at the NCAA First Round in College Station, Texas, May 28-31.
