2024-25 Men's Golf Season In Review

Men's Golf Team 2025 John Burns Intercollegiate

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • Head coach Scott Simpson completed his fourth season at the helm with the Rainbow Warriors competing in 10 tournaments during the 2024-25 campaign.
  • Five Warriors were selected College Sports Communicators Academic All-District – Anson Cabello, Josh Hayashida, Dane Watanabe, James Whitworth, and Tyler Ogawa, the latter of whom was recognized for the third consecutive year.
  • Team posted 10 rounds of par or better, which is tied for second most in a single season in program history.
  • The team’s best finish was third place at the Kapolei Invitational in October while its best 54-hole score was 13-under 839 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif., the latter of which was the third-lowest total in program history.
  • Set a new single-round scoring record of 12-under 272 in the opening round of the Alister MacKenzie Invite, breaking the previous mark of 273 set at last season’s Ka‘anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on Maui.
  • Josh Hayashida tied the program record for low round with a 9-under 63 in the second round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate. Hayashida tied the record held by Scotty Yamashita and Bret Parker.
  • Hayashida led the team with a 72.96 scoring average with three Top 20 finishes and a team-best 14 rounds of par or better, including six in the 60s.
  • Hayashida, who tied for 11th place at the prestigious Western Intercollegiate, earned honorable mention All-Big West honors.
  • Held a share of the lead after two rounds of the Kapolei Invitational before eventually finishing third. UH was seeking its first Division I team title since 2004.
  • Kicked off the season in Japan with the Pan Pacific Super League Tournament, its first sanctioned regular-season tournament in the country since the 2009 Naris Cup.

JOINING THE RECORD BOOKS

Josh Hayashida shot a 63 in the Amer Ari Invitational which is tied for the lowest score ever shot by a UH player. He joined Scotty Yamashita and Bret Parker on the list.

KAPOLEI INVITATIONAL

The Rainbow Warriors best finish on the season was at the Kapolei Invitational with the team placing third in the tournament. Anson Cabello had UH's best score shooting -3 which was tied for second for the tournament.
