COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team opened its 2026-27 season on Monday at the CDA National Reserve Invitational, navigating a grueling opening day that was ultimately suspended due to darkness during the second round at the CDA National Reserve.
 
Play was halted Monday evening with several teams, including Hawai'i, still finishing their second round. The conclusion of Round 2 will be completed Tuesday morning prior to the start of the final round. Hawai'i is currently in 10^th place in the 16-team field
 
After posting a 13-over 301 team score in the morning opening round, the Rainbow Warriors showed a dramatic turnaround in Round 2 and are 3-under as a team with just two holes left to play.
 
Freshman Stryker Leick and sophomore Troy Gadalla (competing as an individual) both made their collegiate debuts on Monday, highlighting the squad's improved second-round surge. Leick rebounded from a tough first-round 87 with an impressive 1-over 73 in the afternoon, while Gadalla shaved eight strokes off his opening-round 78 (+6) to fire a team-best 2-under 70 in Round 2, finishing his 36-hole day tied for 46th at 4-over 148.
 
Freshman Campbell Kerr also made his UH debut, pacing the starting lineup in Round 1 with a steady 1-over 73 and is 4-under in his second round with two holes remaining. He was joined at 1-over 73 by senior Dane Watanabe, who is 1-over through 16 holes of Round 2.
 
Junior Josh Hayashida made his long-awaited return to the Rainbow Warrior lineup after missing the entire 2025-26 season due to injury, carding a first-round 78 and is 1-under in his second round. Sophomore Alec Hilgers rounded out the morning effort with a 5-over 77 and is 2-over in Round 2.
 
St. Mary's (Calif.) holds the clubhouse team lead after firing a 15-under 561 through two rounds, holding a 14 stroke lead over Sacramento State.
 
Second-round play will resume early Tuesday morning, with the 18-hole final round to follow immediately after.
