LONG BEACH, Calif. – Catherine Touchette capped off an incredible couple of days at the Big West Multis Championship by finishing third in the heptathlon with 5,496 points.
Touchette posted PRs in five of the seven events on the way to posting the second-best heptathlon performance in program history. The junior started off Saturday with a personal best mark in the long jump, posting a jump of 5.79m (19-0).
After finishing third in the field in the javelin with a throw of 36.41m (119-5), Touchette ran away from the field in the 800m – her signature event – with a time of 2:12.71 to set the UH heptathlon 800m record and claim her spot on the podium.
On day one Friday, Touchette shattered her previous personal best in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.22 to finish fifth in the field. She followed that with another huge PR in the high jump, clearing 1.72m (5-7.75) to top her previous best of 1.58m. Touchette closed out the day by besting her previous shot put PR with a toss of 9.96m (32-8.25) before crossing the line in a career-best 25.60 in the 200m.
Grace Blanchette came in 13th in the heptathlon with 4,443 points, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 35.87m (117-8).
The full squad of Rainbow Wahine will kick off action at the Big West Championships Friday in Long Beach.
